What is orthopaedics?
Orthopaedics is the repair, treatment and support of ligaments and bones. This includes plating, pinning, joint reconstruction and more. Orthopaedic surgery can include ligament repair, fracture repair, spinal surgery, amputation, repair and setting of broken bones and any other bone or ligament related surgery. Therapeutic surgery can be done for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, shoulder lameness, bone cancer removal, joint replacement as well as surgery required due to canine cruciate disease. A variety of diagnostic tools are used to determine the treatment options for each animal that comes in displaying issues with ligaments and bones. This can range from reducing inflammation to surgery. Pets will often need long term treatment but their quality of life and life expectancy is usually vastly improved.
