Meet Button

MEET BUTTON

Button came to visit me yesterday.  She was 3 months old and had the cutest face, white whiskers, floppy ears, mottled tortoise-shell coat with a splash of red over her shoulders. She did not take very easily to handling and was particularly sensitive around her head. Her nails were a bit long and could easily scratch sensitive cuddling arms.

Button is much loved by her owner and she had heard that there had been an increase in disease in the local area and it was causing some sudden fatalities. I carried out a brief examination not wanting to cause undue distress to this highly strung little character. She acquiesced to some handling and had normal cardinal signs. Her mum said she was already house trained when she was allowed inside but spent most of her time outside.

While I was giving her a 3 month vaccination I recommended an annual revisit for a booster.  Vaccines are excellent insurers against many diseases in animals and humans.  The low prevalence of these diseases is directly related to the widespread use of vaccines. So if you love them or even just value them for there economic value then don't stint on vaccines they save lives.

As we put Button the bunny back in her box though I reflected that in my younger days her kin would not have been so lucky. Today however I was happy to see Button leave and glad that she was safe from a preventable disease for another year.a
