EXAM TIME
As exam time approaches again for many of us, myself included, I am reminded how study can improve our knowledge both generally such as schooling might do and more particularly such as specified courses might do. The former allowing us to have a broader understanding while the later allows us to focus more specifically on an area of prior general interest.
Individually this is appropriate because much of veterinary practice is routine but particular problems can be directed toward someone with that specific area of interest. Veterinary medicine differs from human medicine however in that most of this is done in house. A GP will refer for ongoing diagnostics or particular specialists whereas here at BCVH almost all diagnostics and special interests can be catered for in house. Blood tests, digital x-rays, ultrasound, video otoscopy, endoscopy and microscopy can be done on site and we wear many different hats including dentists, radiologists, dermatologists, surgeons, fleologists, cytologists, behaviourists and the list goes on.
Knowledge of itself is not difficult to come by now. Searching the internet is a bit like brainstorming, pick a topic and write down all ideas that comes to mind, but because we can canvas everybody the response is huge, pages and pages of information. This is information overload and we lack good general taught skills for narrowing our searches whereas specific areas of information are well catered for but we have to pay for them. Simplistically the divide between anecdotal and scientific persists into the internet age.
Rest assured though you can ring us up and we will give the best information we can, no matter what hat we wear and likely as not there will be no charge.
